The Infinity Project is an idea I have been working on for the past few years inspired by my own experiences and many sources of artistic reference. It started out as a look into simulation theory which has become popular recently. I took that idea and and applied my own skills as a games developer using simple logic and inspiration from artists, scientists, actors, writers, directors, comedians, games developers and friends to put together a simple design for how the universe works. Its just a theory but could be used as a template to fuel further research.
As well as a theoretical paper or design it is also meant to be a pitch to possibly start a video games studio which has been a dream of mine for many years. I have a strong appreciation of science and art and think it would be very useful to propose forming a company that can explore many of the ideas I have generated. I believe I have the skills and creativity to produce original content that will be like no other company and will stand out from the crowd as a highly talented and passionate art studio with its own distinctive flair.
Iron Core Studios
As well as looking into scientific research the main production content will be indie styled video games which I plan to distribute from a dedicated website. The first game which I have been designing is called Scattered Disk and is a 3D side scrolling platformer which tells the story of how the solar system formed. I have done a great deal of research into celestial mechanics and specifically how each planet formed from the outer solar system to the sun.
Scattered Disk
You play as the character seed which starts life as a small particle floating out in the scattered disk region of the solar system. Your objective is to attain mass by collecting solar debris under the influence of gravity. Along the way you will collect many forms of material either by gathering everything you find or by destroying NPC's and gathering the resulting material. Eventually you will gather enough material to form the planet Earth.
Along the way you will encounter other planets and moons and discover unique aspects about how they formed and learn the individual story of their birth. I have tried to represent each of the planets with a distinct personality and character to make the primordial solar system seem as diverse and unique as possible.
The game mechanics will draw inspiration from space combat physics and I have tried to provide the player with unique abilities that allows them to roam the solar system freely. As you travel amongst the planets you will find collectable objects of power called the seeds of life and these will give the player new abilities that will allow progression throughout the game and let the player take on bigger more powerful enemies.
To travel the solar system you will need assistance from a party of aliens that are studying the solar system. Each planetary orbit will be a separate level and to get the the next level you will need to collect water ice that can be used to fuel the aliens space ship.
Seed will have two forms of combat. Melee and ranged. This will give the player the ability to use a variety of different combat skills that I hope will make the game feel fun and satisfying to play. Scattered disk tries to incorporate many aspects of game play, story, beautiful artwork, music, progression, challenge, character, heart and originality all condensed into a quality product which I hope people appreciate and becomes the standard around which Iron Core Studios will form and will continue to peruse a career of high quality independent games with its own flavor distinct from the crowd.
